2026 Schedule
11 EventsWhat to Expect
All Levels Welcome
Training days are structured to accommodate dogs at every stage — 8-week puppies getting their first bird introduction through seasoned dogs tuning up before a test. Senior handlers pair with newer members throughout the session.
Structured but Flexible
Each session has a posted focus area, but handlers work at their own pace. Chapter officers and experienced members are on hand to offer guidance, run drills, and answer questions. All handlers are encouraged to attend every training day — even if your dog isn't running — to help volunteer and support fellow members.
What to Bring
Your dog, a check cord, e-collar if conditioned, an orange vest, an O/U shotgun, water bottles for yourself, and water and a bowl for your dog. Bird packages for training should be purchased by the Thursday before each training day. Wear comfortable hiking or hunting footwear — the grounds can be wet early in the morning.
Location
The Barn Training Grounds
Piedmont, SD 57718
Located in the foothills west of Rapid City. The grounds include open grassland, wooded cover, and a water pond — terrain that mirrors NAVHDA test conditions. Parking is available on site.
